MyShell (“we”, “us”) is a desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux published by Myshell.app. This policy describes what information we collect when you use MyShell, our website at myshell.app, and related services.

Information we collect

On your device (local)

MyShell stores profiles, settings, session metadata, and terminal scrollback locally under ~/Library/Application Support/myshell/. License tokens, trial dates, and optional AI API keys are stored in the OS secure store (for example the macOS Keychain). This data stays on your device unless you enable cloud sync.

Licensing

• Device identifier: a one-way hash of your device hardware UUID, used to enforce trial and activation limits.
• License tokens: short-lived JWTs stored in Keychain after activation or trial registration.
• Email address: collected when you purchase a license, request support, or submit the feedback form.

Cloud sync (optional subscription)

If you subscribe to MyShell Cloud, profiles and settings are encrypted on your device with AES-GCM before upload. We store only opaque ciphertext on Cloudflare R2 — we cannot read your synced content. During the free trial, MyShell Cloud preview usage (AI and sync) is tracked per device with daily limits.

AI features

• Bring your own key (BYOK): requests go directly from your device to your chosen provider. We do not receive your prompts or API key.
• Hosted AI (subscription): chat requests are proxied through our license API to OpenRouter. Prompts and responses pass through our server for the duration of the request only.

Website

The marketing site uses Bootstrap from jsDelivr CDN. When you submit the feedback form, we collect your email, subject, and message. We do not use analytics cookies or third-party tracking pixels.

How we use information

• Provide and enforce licensing (trial, activation, subscription)
• Deliver app updates
• Respond to support and feedback messages
• Operate optional cloud sync and hosted AI for subscribers

Third-party services

• Cloudflare — website hosting, license API, release downloads, D1 database, R2 storage
• Paddle — payment processing and subscription billing (when you purchase online)
• OpenRouter — hosted AI inference for MyShell Cloud subscribers
• jsDelivr — Bootstrap CSS/JS on the marketing site

Data retention

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it. License records and feedback messages are retained as long as needed to provide the service and comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion of your license and feedback records by contacting [email protected].

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold. Contact us at [email protected] to make a request.

Children

MyShell is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest revision.
